Throw 1.0.2 Show your Mac on a TV, an Apple TV or a projector, then put the screen where you want it and pick its resolution, all from one menu-bar icon. WHAT'S IN THIS FOLDER • Throw.app: the app • Install Throw.command: installs it (run this) • Read Me.txt: this file BEFORE YOU START • Any Mac (Apple Silicon or Intel) running macOS 14 or later. It was made and tested on macOS 27. • The TV or Apple TV must be on, with AirPlay turned on, and on the same network as your Mac. INSTALL 1. Double-click "Install Throw.command". If macOS says it can't be opened ("Apple could not verify…"): click Done, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click "Open Anyway", then double-click the installer again. Or open Terminal, type bash followed by a space, drag "Install Throw.command" into the Terminal window, and press Return. 2. The installer copies Throw into Applications and opens it. A welcome window walks you through the rest. 3. Allow Accessibility when the welcome window asks: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, and turn on Throw. Throw needs it to press Control Center's Screen Mirroring buttons for you. It doesn't look at or record your screen. 4. When macOS asks whether Throw may find devices on your local network, click Allow. That's how it sees the TVs near you. Prefer to do it by hand? Drag Throw into Applications and open it. The first time, macOS blocks it: go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway". USING Throw • Click Throw's icon (a screen with an arc thrown into it) in the menu bar. It lists the screens near you. • Choose Mirror, Extend or Window under "Connect as", then click a screen and Connect. If the TV shows a code, type it in the box macOS puts up. Control Center flashes up for a moment while Throw connects. • Once connected, the same menu has: - Mirror or Extend, to switch at any time. - A small map: drag the TV around your Mac's screen, or use the arrow buttons to put it left, above, right or below. - Resolution: pick a size, or All Resolutions for the full list. - Edges cut off? Tells you where to fix that on the TV itself. A Mac can't shrink the picture it sends over AirPlay. - Remember as: give the room a name ("Room 204"). Next time you connect to that screen, it goes back where you put it, at the same resolution. - Disconnect. • Presenting mode (on by default): while a screen is connected, Throw turns on Do Not Disturb (unless another Focus is already on), hides your desktop icons behind your wallpaper and keeps the Mac awake. Everything goes back when you disconnect. • Throw Settings… (in the menu) has General, Presenting and Screens (your remembered rooms, to rename or forget). • Throw takes the place of macOS's own Screen Mirroring icon. To hide that one: System Settings → Menu Bar, Screen Mirroring, "Don't Show in Menu Bar". GOOD TO KNOW • To update: unzip a newer copy and run its installer. It replaces the old one and keeps your settings and rooms. You may need to turn Throw on again in Accessibility afterwards. • To uninstall: quit Throw from its menu and drag it from Applications to the Trash. • Throw is free and open source. It isn't from the App Store and isn't notarized by Apple, which is why macOS asks you to confirm it the first time. It isn't made by Apple.
